Webinar: Essential Personal Planning during COVID-19

Watch Annabel Bazante, Esq., Elder Care and Estate Planning Attorney discuss critical updates on legal issues and practical tips related to the health crisis we face:

1. Temporary Emergency Measures:

  • New York State Executive Orders No. 202.7 and 202.14 which authorize remote notarization and remote document signing
  • All statutes of limitation for NYS causes of action have been tolled

2. Important Changes to the Law effective October 1, 2020:

  • Community/Home care applications for Medicaid will be subject to a 30-month lookback period
  • Home care assessments will no longer be conducted by private long-term care insurance companies but, rather, by the Department of Health

3. Essential Items needed in the age of COVID-19:  Since you will most likely be separated from loved ones if hospitalization is necessary, it has become essential to prepare:

  • Vital Information Form (VIF) listing all critical information, including medical history, insurance, next of kin, legal information, medications and more.
  • Critical Packing List (CPL) detailing what you’ll need in the hospital including: cell phone, charger, headset, eyedrops, inhalers and more

4. Advance Directives are more important now than ever, whether you are a first responder, last responder, or a community conscious #stayathome hero, you should have:

  • Health Care Proxy
  • Living Will
  • Power of Attorney
  • Last Will & Testament
